Planeta Actimedia
is a company that belongs to Grupo Planeta and is dedicated to the
creation and management of content for the manufacturing of publishing
products for any medium and any marketing channel. It develops three
fundamental lines of activity: the production of major works, multimedia
production and the management of the Planeta Content Bank.
The
Major Works Production Area creates up-to-date publishing products
(encyclopaedic dictionaries, major subject-specific works, educational
texts, encyclopaedias and multimedia works) to specification, for
any Grupo Planeta company. These works and products are multiformat
(texts, cartography, iconography, audiovisual material) and for
any medium. Particularly noteworthy among the products created during
2002 are Auditórium (Auditorium), La
Historia en su Lugar: Nueva Historia de España (History
in its place: a New History of Spain) and Gran Atlas de
España Planeta (The Planeta Great Atlas of Spain).
The
Multimedia Production Area focuses on the application of state-of-the-art
technology to the creation and processing of content in any format
and for any digital medium (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, PDA, the internet,
etc.). The most notable publishing products of 2002 include La
Historia de España en su Lugar (The History of Spain
in its Place) on DVD-Video, the multimedia encyclopaedia Planeta
2000 2003 Edition on CD and DVD-ROM, Atlas de España
y Portugal Multimedia (Multimedia Atlas of Spain and Portugal)
on CD-ROM and the educational website Experimenta! Ingredients
de l’univers (Experience! Ingredients of the universe).
This
area is also the benchmark internal consultant as regards the application
of IP technologies to business processes for Grupo Planeta, and
it develops and manages the technological platform for website support.
In this respect, it undertook website projects for Grupo Planeta
companies such as Planeta Directo, DeaPlaneta and Ediciones Altaya
over the course of 2002. It manages and markets geoPlaneta brand
products, which are created on the basis of the brand’s own
cartography and that of third parties from Spain, Portugal and Europe,
with more than 150,000 georeferenced points of interest. geoPlaneta
provides organisations and companies with an online service for
the consultation of maps and routes.
The Content Bank is mainly responsible for creating,
updating and managing Grupo Planeta’s content (texts of an
encyclopaedic nature, reference and educational material, iconographic
multi-thematic texts, 3D animations, cartography, etc.). It also
carries out research and development in the field of computational
linguistics, with a view to automating content management work.
Lastly, Planeta Actimedia is actively involved
in publishing forums and new information technologies.
